Along with Badu, RM’s larger messages of authenticity and internal reflection have co-signs from two artists that boast timeless work and appreciation throughout the decades to make 28-year-old RM’s thesis all the more impactful. “Yun” is directly inspired by one of RM’s favorite artists, the late Korean painter Yun Hyongkeun, whose voice is first heard at the song’s start. “I wanna be a human/ ‘Fore I do some art,” he says on the chorus noting that one needs to get back to the person inside before they’re able to create anything of substance. But thematically, it also sets up RM’s mindset about returning to his initial passion for creating art and music. The chilled-out, jazz-tinged R&B track acts is a perfect introduction to Indigo, setting the scene that this is far from anything we’ve heard from RM, or BTS, so far.
